Proceeding from human perception and cognition processes, based on urban road network structure OD analysis and through scientific analysis and research on the guiding effect of a city's landmark on drivers, urban road traffic guide sign design technology proposes systematic design method for urban road traffic guide signs and performs aided design and simulation with GIS information processing, computer simulation and other modern technologies.
Main Methods and Procedures of Design
1. To determine the boundary of guide sign design system and analyze urban road network structure and function; 2. To determine, classify and grade the city's landmark targets; 3. To design layout of the guide signs; 4. To perform long-distance design for the landmark targets to highlight the static guidance function; 5. To perform guide sign design verification and computer simulation.
Ganzhou Guide Sign Design Project put forward the urban road traffic guiding design theory and methodology that adopts long-distance and general-direction guidance for the first time in China. Proceeding from human perception and cognition processes, based on urban road network structure OD analysis and through scientific analysis and research on the guiding effect of the city's landmarks on drivers, it adopted radius coverage method, cluster analysis method and other mathematical models to perform systematic and continuous guidance of guide signs. A traffic guide sign system unique to Ganzhou has been formed through guiding design of attractions, administrative services organs and other landmarks of Ganzhou.
The technology has been applied in Hefei, Huainan (Anhui Province), Yiwu, Huzhou (Zhejiang Province) and Ganzhou (Jiangxi Province).
